Hello! This is Mori from the Corporate Communication Division!
In our company, we have a corporate culture where 30% of working hours are allocated to projects other than regular tasks. This fosters employees’ spirit of innovation, enabling us to engage in various initiatives such as the development of new products as a technology-driven venture company.
One of the initiatives I’d like to highlight today is the “New Factory Project.“
The New Factory Project is an initiative launched with the aim of expanding our Tsukuba factory.
However, it’s not just about expanding the existing buildings; it’s a major project that involves designing the buildings and landscape from scratch. Preparation is underway steadily for the groundbreaking next year. From the preparation stage to construction and completion, there’s so much to share about this project! Therefore, we plan to provide regular updates on the New Factory Project in the future.
The Progress of the New Factory Project
The first installment will show you the progress of our New Factory Project.
As a technology-driven venture company, we have set three visions:
1. New products launched within the past 10 years will account for 50% of total revenue.
2. Launch at least two world’s only one or No.1 products per year.
3. Create new business ventures and cultivate staff capable of managing them.
and to achieve these visions, we decided to expand our production capacity and secure space for non-routine activities by adding a new factory.
Initially, breaking away from the established image of our Tsukuba factory posed a challenge. However, our president provided a valuable insight, expressing a different perspective: “It’s not about adhering to the past.” He envisioned a new factory that would evolve into an internationally open innovation center over the next 10 to 20 years.
An opportunity arose when we connected with Professor Kazuyoshi Watanabe, an associate professor in the art department at Tsukuba University, known for his work in urban development and placemaking. He showed interest in our project and proposed a collaborative effort involving university students.
The expertise and fresh perspectives brought by Professor Watanabe and his students greatly enriched our project. As we exchanged ideas, the project gained momentum, and we quickly developed exciting concepts for the factory’s design.
Currently, we are working with Tsukuba University and our partner companies to finalize the interior and garden design based on the project’s concept. Many fantastic ideas have been proposed, and we are eagerly anticipating the final outcome.
In future installments, we will continue to share updates on the progress of the new factory construction and introduce the project team, including our partners from Tsukuba University and collaborating companies. Stay tuned for more updates!
